Why does a new hose keep crushing behind the dryer?

Usually clearance. The transition duct is the short flexible piece between the dryer and the wall. Push the dryer back tight and foil accordion hose folds flat. Airflow drops right at that fold. Damp marine-layer lint packs into the creases. That is why dryers here run two and three cycles.

We replace it with listed semi-rigid aluminum, or a rigid periscope fitting where space is short. No plastic, no vinyl. No screws through the duct: screw tips catch lint and build a plug. Joints get clamps and foil tape instead. In condo laundry closets with stacked or side-by-side units and no clearance behind them, a periscope buys back inches and lets the machine sit flat.

A hose swap fixes the last few feet only. Postwar garage and service-porch dryers often run 4 to 10 feet through an exterior wall. Three-story rebuilds and townhomes are different: 20 to 35 feet vertical, two or three elbows, ending at a roof jack or high side wall. Screened caps trap lint. Birds nest in unscreened ones.

Check it yourself first. Pull the dryer out and look for kinks, tears, and gray lint dust on the floor. If lint is showing at the exterior hood, the hose is not your problem.
